Othon Announced as W League Assistant Coach

Othon Castillo is announced as the newest assistant coach for our USL W Squad.

The native of Guayaquil Ecuador, Castillo has been around the sport his whole life. His player career included a 4 year run at Pomona-Pitzer College in Southern California and after college, he went to play at the semi professional level in the San Francisco/San Jose Majors.

Castillo has an impressive coaching resume spanning over 30 years of experience. His previous coaching stints include coaching club soccer at UC Santa Cruz and Claremont College. He’s gained national recognition after being recognized as 2015 Girls Competitive Coach of the Year for California Youth Soccer Association North, The 2016 Girls Competitive Coach of the Year for US Youth Soccer – Region IV and a 2016 National Girls Competitive Coach of the Year for US Youth Soccer finalist. He currently holds a variety of licenses and diplomas which includes a USSF National B License and a NSCAA Goalkeeper Level 2 Diploma.

When asked about what this position means to him, his response was “This is a great privilege and opportunity. For me, it checks all the boxes. I get to help coach a team of high performing players, and work with a dynamic and knowledgeable coaching staff at a club with strong ties to the community. This is an environment in which I can be a strong contributor, as well as one that will help me hone and grow my coaching skills and knowledge. “
